FAREWELL DOWN

From the opening guitar notes of "We're Not Far," FAREWELL DOWN's anthemic song about the universal longing for eternal hope, it's clear that the San Diego-based band is reaching for musical moments that transcend easy categorization and simple pop structures. Edgy, emotional, taut, and daring, their songs are built on inspired interplay between bittersweet melodies, crunching guitars, and lyrics that are unafraid to search for truth beyond everyday platitudes. High school friends Joe Henschel (lead vocals, guitar, keys) and Rudy Perkins (lead guitar) formed Farewell Down in Vista, Calif. in 2003. In 2006, the band released their debut full-length CD, a 10-song self-titled disc, produced by three-time Grammy winner Rob Burrell (Barlow Girl, Michael W. Smith, Phil Keaggy). Their latest CD, Parachutes and Skies marks the band's growth with killer tunes "We're Not Far," "A Little Comedy," and the title track. Joined by Paul Droste (drums) and Codie Henderson (bass), the four-piece group brings a live show with an incendiary, emotional impact. "The name Farewell Down comes from Luke 9:59-62," explains Henschel, "where Jesus asks a man to follow him and the man replies 'Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.' Here we see a clear picture that God doesn't want us to say farewell to things in our lives before we follow Him. He just wants us to pick up our cross and follow Him no matter where we are or what we are doing." |
