Hilary Watson's Vestige of Beauty releases this week

With such an inspired and mature debut, expectations were high for Hilary Watson's follow-up to 2007's Passing By. Yet the release this week of Vestige of Beauty exceeds those high expectations with a collection of ten songs of astonishing depth and honesty.

Hilary decided to bring her voice and guitar even more to the fore with a stripped-down sound that is warm, inviting, and immediate. The arrangements are tender and spare, with the interplay of violin and cello (now a staple of her live show) filling a large role along with occasional appearances of banjo, bass, drums, and percussion, while her voice has never sounded stronger or more compelling, as on the soaring, Middle-Eastern tinged choruses of "Emmanuel." Further highlights include a duet with Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek on the outstanding "Hymn of Faith," "Worthy Is The Lamb" featuring Evan Wickham, "Waiting on a Miracle," "Cruel is the Night," "Glorious Light," and the title track.

Evan Wickham issues highly anticipated Above The Sky

It's safe to say that the anticipation for Evan Wickham's follow-up to his acclaimed 2005 debut Mysterious Things was building in the months leading up to its recent release.

Fueled by a growing grass-roots following, the impact of Evan's debut was evident in the way that years after it was released it was more popular than ever -- and people were asking more and more when a follow-up would be arriving.

That follow-up recently arrived in the form of Above The Sky, a 12-song CD of original worship songs that expands the horizon's of Evan's music with a deeper, more expansive sound. Highlights of the new disc include "Now Unto The One," "Speak To Me," "Heavenlies," and "Our Deliverer," and lyrically Evan's work is just as challenging as ever; check these lines from "Love Has A Name":

What have we done? We’ve stopped before the race was run
I know I’m not the only one wondering
When did we become the very thing we’re running from
Consume it all and leave a crumb for offering

All our righteous deeds
They don’t mean a single thing

Without love all of our praises
Are only empty phrases
So we seek the face of Jesus
Let the Savior free us with His love

The new CD is available directly from Evan's official site where you can also download lyrics and chord charts for each of the new songs.

Grayson Kessenich delivers debut full-length CD, From The Treehouse

Grayson Kessenich just released his full-length debut, From The Treehouse, an eleven-track disc recorded in Northern California earlier this year that expands on his already-potent Euro-pop and modern rock sound while showcasing his increasingly mature songwriting. Standout tracks include the album-opening "Gates" and "Under The Moonlight," as well as the ornately elegant closer, "All Things New."

Grayson just finished a brief tour in Southern California and will be playing one-off dates around Northern California between now and the end of the year before embarking on more extended tours throughout the US in 2010.

In memory of Christopher Laurie

On Thursday, July 24, the unthinkable happened when Christopher Laurie, a young husband and father, was killed in an automobile accident in Southern California. Leaving behind his wife, Brittany, two-year-old daughter Stella, and a baby on the way, Christopher will be dearly missed by his family and the thousands of people whose lives he touched.

Christopher's father, Greg Laurie, is the pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., and Fishers artists have served over the years at countless events both at the church and at Harvest Crusades around the world. The entire Fishers family mourns the loss of a friend and we ask that you join us in praying for Brittany, Stella, and the rest of their family during this time.

Greg Laurie's personal blog page has a statement about Christopher as well as a place where thoughts, condolences, and prayers can be shared online.

Matt Brouwer completes new Where's Our Revolution album

MATT BROUWER just finished his highly-anticipated new album, Where's Our Revolution, a 12-song disc that is unquestionably his finest work yet. "I'm a fan of Matt's Unlearning CD, but hearing Where's Our Revolution is like moving from black-and-white to full color," says Fishers Artists Agency director Tim Brinkman. "I honestly think it's Matt's masterpiece."

Standout tracks on the new album include "Come Back Around," leadoff single "Beautiful Now," and the title track, as well as a very special song, "The Other Side," which features Amy Grant and Vince Gill on guest vocals. "It's a song I wrote about the experiences of losing my sister about two years ago, and I guess just putting my feelings to music," says Matt. "My sister was twelve years older than me, a really gifted guitar player and singer, and really inspired me as a kid to express myself through music.

"She actually introduced my family to Amy's music, so it's pretty awesome to now have Amy actually sing on the song. I feel like a pretty lucky kid right now."

A video of Matt recording the song with Vince Gill and Amy Grant is available here and the entire Where's Our Revolution album is now available for purchase and immediate download via Matt's official website. The CD is also available for pre-order and will be hitting stores this fall. Excerpts from several tracks can also be heard on Matt's artist page here at the Fishers website.

Shachah signs deal with Cross Movement Records

Southern California hip-hop/soul/rock band SHACHAH just signed a deal with Cross Movement Records and the band's national debut album is slated to be released early next year.

"This has been a process that started a while back and through much prayer and a building of relationships we have decided that this is what the Lord has put in our path," says bassist Earl Mergelsberg. "Please keep us in prayer as we start to get ready for the next chapter in this ministry that the Lord has entrusted us with."

The new album will be a mix of songs already written and released on Shachah's three self-released albums, plus many new tracks.

In the meantime, the band is hitting the road this summer, with dozens of dates lined up on tours in the Northwest later this month and into May as well as a Southeast US tour in June and July.
